Melone Property Proposal Information.

Important Notice

Sudbury Baseball has been working diligently over the last year to receive town approval and CPC funds to build a new baseball complex at the Melone property, which is currently a 55 acre town-owned gravel pit located on Rte 117 near the Concord line.  This proposal already has unanimous support from the Park & Recreation committee.

The scope of this proposal is dramatic.  It includes two ninety-foot diamond fields and two sixty-foot diamond fields, effectively brining together our entire baseball community.  It would have a large concession area, and perimeter fencing to allow for paid-admission tournaments.  In fact the several revenue-generating opportunities this complex would provide are of great interest to the town.  There is also potential space for another rectangle field for lacrosse, soccer, football.  And there will be a perimeter walking path around the White's Pond area.

The funds requested from the Community Preservation Committee are specifically targeted for this purpose…to maintain town-owned land as open space for recreational use.  We are not asking for funds that could be otherwise redirected to areas of need like our schools.  However, a portion of the money that this complex generates can be given back to the town and used for those purposes.

Our most important hurdle in this approval process comes next week when Sudbury Baseball and the Park & Rec committee presents in front of the town selectmen.  The meeting is at the Sudbury Town Hall at 9pm on Tuesday September 7.  It would be of significant benefit to our efforts if the entire baseball  community can attend this meeting.  We ask all baseball parents to arrive by 8:45pm.  This should take no more than 45 minutes.  Please if you can find the time in your evening come to this important meeting.  It will redefine the experience of Sudbury baseball players and parents for years to come.
