Summer Baseball Plans

We are still currently planning a full-summer program with Jimmy Fund (1st Grade-7th), Bay State (3rd Grade – 6th Grade), Lou Tompkins and Minuteman (7th and 8th Grade), which have historically started at the end of the school year.   In the past we have opened registration for summer in early May.  This year we are going to wait until we receive additional guidance from State and Local Authorities and assess the current landscape as to planning summer baseball activities.  We hope to communicate additional information in early June.

COVID-19 Update

Dear LS Youth Baseball Families,

We hope this letter finds your families well in these stressful times. Please know that we have been working hard this past month to determine the best course for our baseball program. To that end, see below for the update on our season.

Season Update

Every spring for the past sixty years, Sudbury baseball fields fill to capacity with young players from Pre-K through high school. America’s pastime brings families out from the winter cold and unites our community, teaching us life skills, including teamwork, respect, fortitude, and even good nutrition (remember a Snack Shack Grand Slam: two hot dogs, soda, and bag of chips!).

As I have mentioned in my earlier messages, the safety and well-being of our community is of utmost importance. With the calendar moving from April to May, it has become clear with Governor Baker’s school closure announcement last week that we would be unable to have a spring baseball season. As a result, it is with extreme disappointment that we are cancelling our spring 2020 baseball season.

Whether you are a family just beginning your journey with LS Youth Baseball or your youngest child is graduating from high school this spring, our program provides experiences and memories such as Tball at Curtis, playing in playoff games for the first time, swinging for the 50/70 fences, or just hanging out at Featherland on a Saturday afternoon with friends. While we won’t be able to do that this spring, many of us will reflect on those times with a smile and can prepare for new memories next spring (maybe this summer), along with that Grand Slam at the Snack Shack.

This year we are going to wait until late May and assess the current landscape, which will provide more time to receive additional guidance on the summer.

The day will come and it will come soon that we can all be back at Featherland hearing the ‘ping’ of the bat, kids cheering on their teams, and families reconnecting in the community.

Best wishes to you and your families,

Marc Spector

President, LS Youth Baseball
