Manager & Coaches Training Day: March 13th
by posted 03/06/2010

The Sudbury Little League Training Day will be held on Saturday March 13 at the Haynes School.

8:00am - 9:30am      SLL Baseball Skills Platform        For T-Ball managers (and others who have not been NYSCA certified)

Jeff Dade and Andy Mitchell will provide instruction on the Sudbury Baseball Skills Platform and the art of teaching this to young players. This session is intended for T-Ball managers/coaches and others who will be attending the NYSCA Certification Clinic later in the morning. Please bring your gloves, bats, and running shoes (not spikes, we'll be meeting in the Haynes gym) as these sessions are very participatory! Doors will open at 7:30 am.

9:30am  - 11am      NYSCA Certification Clinic      For anyone who has never been NYSCA certified

SLL requires that all managers be NYSCA certified (and we recommend that all coaches also get certified). In order to recieve your first-time NYSCA certification, you will need to attend the NYSCA clinic in the Haynes Cafeteria. Please bring a check for $20 made out to NYSCA. (If you have been NYSCA certified in the past, you do not have to attend this clinic. You can renew by mail or on-line at www.nays.org .)

9:30am - 11am         SLL Baseball Skills Platform      For managers/coaches in younger divisions who have been NYSCA certified in the past

This is a repeat of the Baseball Skills training offered earlier; this session is intended for A-1, A-2 and AA managers & coaches who have already been NYSCA certified but want a refresher course on baseball skills. Please bring your gloves, bats, and running shoes (not spikes, we'll be meeting in the Haynes gym) as these sessions are very participatory!

11am - 12:30                          Pitching Instruction                          For AA Managers and Coaches

In this session, Jeff Dade will be providing instruction on how to introduce pitching to the young player. Pitching fundamentals and techniques will be reviewed and demonstrated. This session is targeted for AA managers and coaches; AAA and Majors managers and coaches are welcome to attend. Please bring your gloves and running shoes, but no spikes as we'll be meeting in the Haynes gym.

NYSCA Training March 13th
by posted 02/28/2010

The Sudbury Little League annual day of training will be held on Saturday March 13. Exact times are still being worked out and will be communicated as soon as they are known, but please save your Saturday morning for baseball training!

Training will cover several areas:

NYSCA clinic: SLL requires all Managers to be NYSCA certified (and we recommend it for all Coaches). If you have not been NYSCA certified before, you need to attend this ~ 2 hour clinic to achieve your initial certification. If you have been certified in the past, you are welcome to repeat the clinic, but it is not a requirement. Certification renewals can be made through the NYSCA web site at www.nays.org (or through the renewal notice they should have mailed you).

Introduction to the SLL Baseball Skills Platform: once again, Jeff Dade will be teaching Managers and Coaches the SLL Baseball Skills platform - and more importantly, how to teach these skills to our young players! Jeff has perfected this Skills Platform over many years; it helps us by providing comprehensive methods for instructing youth baseball players and ensures the players recieve consistent instruction as they progress through Sudbury Little League. If you haven't attended in the past, we strongly encourage you to attend this year (especially T-Ball, A-1 and A-2 Managers). If you have attended in the past, you are welcome to repeat again this year - regardless of the level you are now coaching at.

How to Instruct the Young Pitcher: Jeff Dade will be teaching pitching fundamentals. This clinic is focused on the AA level, where SLL introduces kid pitch for the first time. All AA Managers and Coaches are encouraged to attend. AAA and Majors Managers and Coaches are welcome to attend as well.

We are still working out details for a Skills clinic focused on the AAA and Majors levels - stay tuned.

Scholarship Opportunity for High School Seniors
by posted 02/09/2010

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WHO PLAYED SUDBURY LITTLE LEAGUE OR BABE RUTH

Each spring, Sudbury Little League and Sudbury Babe Ruth League award one or more college scholarships, in varying amounts, to graduating seniors who have participated in either of our programs.  Last year $5,000 was split amongst four recipients.  Seniors at LS, as well as other high schools, are eligible and you do not need to be a member of the high school baseball team to earn a scholarship.

Scholarships are awarded to those seniors who benefited and learned from participation in youth baseball.  We are also looking for a demonstrated commitment of time and energy in support of Sudbury Baseball, other youth sports programs and other service-oriented activities. Recipients of these scholarships possess exemplary character traits and solid academic records as they will represent the Lincoln and Sudbury communities as they move on to college life.
